Macie Slick is a violinist and violist with diverse performance experience in classical, fiddle, and rock genres.  She holds a Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis in violin performance from the Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music at Chapman University, where she graduated magna cum laude.  While there, she studied violin with William Fitzpatrick, studied viola with Robert Becker, and served as concertmaster and principal second violin of the Chapman University Chamber Orchestra.  She was honored as an inaugural recipient of the Henri Temianka Scholarship in String Studies and was a recipient of the Warne Scholarship.  She has performed at various music festivals, including the Sewanee Summer Music Festival and the Viola Workout.  She has also appeared in master classes with Cho-Liang Lin, Stephen Clapp, Cornelia Heard, Peter Marsh, Kurt Sassmannshaus, Shirley Givens, and others. Macie currently serves as a concertmaster in the South Coast Symphony.

 

In addition to her classical music experience, Macie is also a veteran of numerous fiddle contests, winning first place in the Shadow Hills Bluegrass Contest and third place in the Topanga Banjo Fiddle Contest.  She has especially enjoyed spending summers at the Rocky Mountain Fiddle Camp, where she had the privilege of studying with great fiddlers, such as Andy Stein, Alan Jabbour, Craig Duncan, Ian Fraser, Seamus Connoly and Bruce Molsky.  Further expanding her musical diversity, Macie has recorded, appeared in music videos, and performed live with several bands, including YYNOT, Ceasefire, The Gromble, and Flat Top Reed, while appearing at such venues as the House of Blues, the Yost Theater, and the Viper Room.

 

Macie enjoys teaching and promoting music education, both privately and in local schools. She currently serves as conductor for the Prelude String Orchestra and string coach for Prelude Sinfonia and Prelude Chamber Strings. She has appeared as a guest fiddler with the North Coast Singers, and local elementary school choirs.  Macie is especially devoted to teaching young violin and viola students, and is passionate about providing them with a strong foundation that emphasizes sound technical skills, while helping them to develop a life-long love for music.  Her students have been accepted into the Orange County School of the Arts, various youth orchestras, school district honor ensembles, the Middle School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall, Cal State Long Beach, Chapman University, and the Berklee College of Music.
